Favorite spots for Guinness

Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, and every beer is a Guinness. Let’s face it, the Irish dry stout tastes a lot better than green beer, especially with shots of Jameson and Baileys poured into it.

Here are a few of the local pubs serving up creamy pints of Guinness and a wee bit more:

B&B Saloon in Healdsburg: Get ready for the 7 a.m. St. Pat’s parade with a Guinness on tap. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be free corned beef and cabbage for customers.

Friar Tuck’s in Cotati: Party favors, a bagpiper, and 1,000 pounds of corned beef and cabbage dinners will be served alongside frothy pints of Guinness starting at 10 a.m.

Jasper O’Farrell’s Pub in Sebastopol: Free corned beef and cabbage will be served up at 10 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis, followed by live music, barbecue fare and lots of Guinness on tap.

Maguire’s Pub in Petaluma: It’s the usual suspects here: Corned beef and cabbage, Guinness on tap, Irish dancers and live music. Get cracking after dark with a DJ spinning top 40 club tunes.

Murphy’s Irish Pub in Sonoma: Starting at 11 a.m., you can order up corned beef and cabbage or the traditional Guinness braised beef stew, with Guinness, Smithwick’s and Harp on tap. Irish dancers and Celtic bands get jiggy with it in the afternoon.

Ruth McGowan’s Brewpub in Cloverdale: Sop up the corned beef and cabbage remnants with some soda bread, then wash it down with McGowan’s Dry Irish Stout, a brew so hearty it reportedly makes Guinness taste like water. Don’t miss the parade, starting at 10 a.m. at the pub.

Toad in the Hole in Santa Rosa: Live bands will perform tunes by Celtic-punk band The Pogues, while diners tuck into corned beef and cabbage or Guinness-braised beef stew. The Guinness will flow inside and outside on the sidewalk beer garden.
