One man’s trash is another man’s treasure – or designer gown.

That’s the case with the “Trashion” Fashion Show, a fashionable competition that invites artists, ecologists, designers, and fashionistas to create an elaborate ensemble using only recycled materials and repurposed clothing to create trashy haute couture.

“The work created in previous years Trashion events has been so spectacular, surpassing my wildest dreams, ” said Sonoma Community Center’s Special Projects Manager, Margaret Hatcher. “We are pleased that so many young people are participating and creating wonderful designs. It truly is inspirational. I can’t wait to see what people create this year!”

Open to artists ages 9 and older, aspiring trash designers can enter as either an individual or as a group. Fashions can be silly, extreme, theatrical, or elaborate enough for the runways of New York – anything the imagination allows. $1250 in prizes will be handed out to the top fashions, including a $200 prize for 1st place in the Junior/teen division, and a $500 prize for 1st place in the Adult division.

Applications are being accepted now through 5 p.m. March 15th for the Trashion Fashion Show. Application fee is $30 for up to 3 entries, and $15 for each additional entry. There is no limit on the number of submissions entered. Juniors (ages 9-17) are $20 per submission. The show’s date is still TBD, but is anticipated for late April at the historic Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St., Sonoma.
