This summer’s Healdsburg Jazz Festival will include a two-day tribute to jazz bassist Charlie Haden and other headliner performances by Charles Lloyd with Jason Moran, and the Fred Hersch Trio, according to festival officials.
The 15th annual festival will run from May 31 through June 9 at various indoor and outdoor venues around Healdsburg, including Healdsburg Plaza and the Raven Theater as well as tasting rooms, restaurants, art galleries and outdoor settings.
Theannual celebration of authentic jazz “just keeps growing, and getting bigger and better,” said Jessica Felix, the festival’s founder and artistic director.
On the first weekend, a two-day tribute June 1-2 will honor Charlie Haden with the 12-piece Liberation Music Orchestra featuring Carla Bley and Quartet West with Ravi Coltrane, plus Bill Frisell, Geri Allen, Lee Konitz, Gonzalo Rubalcaba and more artists to be announced.
The second weekend will host an exclusive 2013 U.S. engagement with the Charles Lloyd-Jason Moran Duo, a special evening with the Fred Hersch Trio, and the Marcus Shelby Orchestra with theHealdsburg Jazz Festival’s Freedom Jazz Choir.
“Our plans for the 15th annual festival are very exciting for all of us that work on it throughout the year,” said the festival’s board chairman, Rollie Atkinson. “We hope more and more of the public continues to share the excitement.”
