Santaland Diaries:  The experience of being a holiday elf in Santaland at Macy’s left such a memorable effect on humorist David Sedaris, he wrote a career changing essay that was later adapted into a play by Joe Mantello.  The result is hilarious mostly true adaptation of Sedaris’ elfen days, performed at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, starring David Yen.  $20-$24.  Teens and up.  8 p.m.  (Also showing Dec 7, 8, 14, and 15).  5409 Snyder Ln., Rohnert Park.  www.rpcity.org

Railroad Square Merchant Open House:  The whole area of historic Railroad Square will be decorated to the holiday nines for their annual open house.  Of note is the windows of the different shops, the impressive lobby of Hotel La Rose, and free horse drawn carriage rides (as they do every weekend).
