Backed by the jazzed up entourage Orleans Avenue, 26-year-old Troy Andrews (dubbed Trombone Shorty as a horn loving 4-year-old by his older brother) sports a signature sound that he can only describe as “Supafunkrock”. The heavily laden horns section is encompassed by the beat of a snare, building up into a crescendo of musical tastiness flavored by his delicious vocals.

Pulling in new generation of jazz enthusiasts, Trombone Shorty doesn’t come up short with the level of funk that overlays his albums. This is particularly true of his latest album, the 2011 “For True” that showcases the jazz musician’s New Orleans soul and is peppered with guest appearances by Lenny Kravitz, Kid Rock, Jeff Beck, and Warren Haynes.

Growing up in a widely known musical family (grandfather Jessie Hill was a New Orleans local R&B recording artist and brother James Andrews is a successful jazz trumpeter and also served as his mentor), Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews was born to be a musical great. Judging by the two albums under his belt and how he’s made his mark in the jazz world with a sound all his own, he’s well on his way.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will be playing a show at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts (50 Mark West Springs Rd., Santa Rosa) this Wednesday, September 19th at 8 p.m. Tickets are $30-$45. To purchase tickets, visit wellsfargocenterarts.org.
