For 3 days of creative inspiration, the Art Is…Petaluma event will be at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaluma from Friday September 21st – Sunday, September 23rd.

In its second year on the west coast, this artistic event is a mixed media retreat and handmade market. Local and traveling artists will teach dozens of workshops, including a few Sonoma County favorites: Petaluma artist Cathe Holden who will be teaching about collage & components, Santa Rosa’s Anna Corba who is showing how to create beautiful vintage collages using beeswax, and Sonoma’s Jennifer Whitmer who will teach a relaxed hand-sewing class for creating flower pins for your hair, hats, shirt, or anything else that needs a little something special added to it.

The retreat focuses on sharing as a community while celebrating a multitude of art forms through classes, panel sessions, and a vendor show. Showcased through the week are collages, decorative art, jewelry, sculptures, paintings, and more.

Space is filling up for this retreat quickly, some already full. The price to attend is $140 for full day workshops and $55 for evening workshops. There is also a one-time $70 registration fee, as well as varied fees for kits in many of the workshops.

On Saturday, September 22nd, the public is invited to view and shop at the 2012 West Coast Art Trunk – “a mixed media feast of color, texture, and original art.” The 2012 vendors include workshop leaders who will sell art supplies and finished art. The price of admission is whatever you deem a worthy donation towards The Fabulous Women of Petaluma who will donate proceeds to the children of COTS for scholarships towards art therapy.

The Sheraton Sonoma County is located at 745 Baywood Dr., Petaluma.
