It's a cowboy and alien showdown this Thursday night at Hopmonk

Up for a little fun this weekend?  We know where to go.

Wednesday (Sept 5)

Last Day Saloon: Wednesday’s free Hootenanny show includes Sally Haggard, The Orchid Killers, and more. While the concert is always free, tip money is always encouraged as you enjoy the jams from local bands. 8:30 p.m. 120 Fifth St., Santa Rosa. lastdaysaloon.com

First Edition: Sign up your band to play for the open mic at the Wednesday Night Blues Jam in Petaluma. Happening every Wednesday, this is a chance for musicians to get together and play the blues in a band setting. 7 p.m. 1420 E. Washington St., Petaluma. bluethirdentertainment.com

Sonoma Valley Portworks: Share or listen to 5-minute ‘West Side Stories’ on the Portworks stage. This month’s juicy theme is “Things I never Told My Mother”. Oh, if the walls could talk… 7:30 p.m. $5. (winner gets $50) Ages teen and up. 613 Second St., Petaluma. portworks.com

Thursday (Sept 6)

Hopmonk Sebastopol: The wild wild west clashes with the supernatural when Hopmonk and Funk & Flash team up to present Boogie Nights – Cowboys vs Aliens Costume Party. Only question is, will you come at high noon, or when your three moons have risen? 8:30 p.m. $5. 21-plus. 230 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol. hopmonk.com

Aubergine: The lovely Aussie, Shells, kicks off the show at 8 p.m. with her softspoken yet powerful Folk songs. Following her performance is My Last Line, The Business End, and concluding band Shat (or the more obscene pronunciation of the name). 8 p.m. – midnight. $5. 755 Petaluma Ave., Sebastopol. auberginebarandcafe.com
