West County Fun: On Saturday from 6 to 9:30 p.m., the Western Sonoma County Rural Alliance will host “Grassroots Grazing Gala” at the Occidental Center for the Arts (3850 Doris Murphy Court, Occidental).
Chef Sally Briggs will be preparing yummy things to eat, including fresh Wild King Salmon packets, spiced potatoes, wild mushrooms, vegetarian crepes, Thai chicken satay and much more.
There will be live music by Honey B and the Pollinators and a live auction with the always entertaining Ernie Carpenter as auctioneer. Auction items include Rialto Theater tickets and a series of cooking classes at Ceres Community Project. A raffle features a grand prize of a performance at your event by the Hubbub Club.
Tickets, which are available at brownpapertickets.com, are $45 in advance and $55 at the door.

Celebrating Our Beloved Apple: The Gravenstein Apple Fair may be over for the year, but celebrations of the our most beloved apple continue through early September.
Farmers market celebrations got underway last week, then Slow Food offered cooking demonstrations and tastes of fresh apple juice at the Sebastopol farmers market.
This Saturday, Slow Food takes their Gravenstein extravaganza to the Petaluma farmers market, which takes place from 2 to 5:30 p.m. in Walnut Park.
On September 1, the Pt. Reyes farmers market joins in for the first time. The market, held at Toby’s Feed Barn in the center of downtown Pt. Reyes Station, is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This year’s celebration wraps up on Saturday, September 8, at the Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market, held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the southeast parking lot of the Wells Fargo Center.
