Shawn Colvin is best known for her heart-on-her-sleeve folk songs, having belted out painfully relatable lyrics in songs like ‘Sunny Came Home’, ‘A Few Small Repairs’, and in her latest album ‘All Fall Down’.

Conquering the world with an acoustic guitar in her lap and a comforting simplicity to her voice, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter’s sweet disposition on and off stage is hardly a glimpse to the places she’s been. Yet rather than sweep the downward spirals she had to overcome under the rug, Colvin bared her soul even more through her memoir ‘Diamonds in the Rough’, a first-hand account to battling the demons that exist within the claws of anorexia, depression, addiction, motherhood, job woes, and romantic heartache.

‘Diamond in the Rough’ hit bookshelves last month and recounts Colvin’s coming of age story, from learning how to play guitar at 10 years old to her big break 20 years later – and everything that happened in between. Like the candidacy of her diary page songs, Colvin holds nothing back as she shares the struggles she endured in her search for an identity all her own.

As part of Copperfield’s Village Court author series, Shawn Colvin will be at the Montgomery Village store on Sunday, August 5 at 4pm to talk about her memoir, as well as to play a few tunes. The event is free, but it’s obviously suggested you get there early to ensure entrance to the event.
