Wayne mans his post at Jungle Vibes Gift & Toy Emporium
It’s a sad week in Petaluma. Two favorite stores are submitting to the hard times and shuttering their windows.
Jungle Vibes (136 Petaluma Blvd S, Petaluma), the nature and science toy store with an edge, is inviting the public in to say their last goodbyes and possibly snag some bargains after 18 years in business. The inventory sale is almost over, but a few things still line the shelves waiting to be picked up extremely low prices. They’ll be selling off all fixtures come Wed Feb 1 at 9am. Larger items (like the gumball machine, espresso machine, large pirate, and more) will be available for viewing and bidding all day and awarded at a food and wine event at 5:30pm that evening. View the press release here.

And equally sad is the closing of StarStruck Boutique & Art Gallery (123 Kentucky St, Petaluma). Their brick walls have housed many a talented artist, mixed in with fashions of yesterday and today. Live music events only added to the store’s rock star feel, as did the live window models adorned with snakes at events like the Butter & Eggs Day Parade or Salute to American Graffiti. But this news isn’t all sad, because the store is leaving its brick and mortar building and turning exclusively to online sales at the soon-to-be-launched sweetandunique.com. It will include the best-of StarStruck apparel, hand blended fragrance oils, custom made jewelry, and more. In the meantime, look for blowout prices at the store until it closes forever on February 29th, and be sure to attend the Going Away party on February 18th that will include treats by Cucina Bella Catering, live music by Aldo Garibaldi and Vickie Guillory & the Sugarcats, as well as the ongoing liquidation sale (including fixtures, mannequins, etc) of everything in the store. Keep updated at facebook.com/StarstruckBoutique.
Do not fret about this loss of local jobs.
The county will simply hire some study group, at probably a million tax dollars, to try and ascertain why jobs are going away. DUH. Raise those taxes you freaks. We know you will.
Report comment Report commentIt is always sad when a business closes due to economics. I use to go to Petaluma often to shop, but not much to draw me there anymore. IMHO the theatre district was the start of the decline. When you spread things out in a small town, you lose what was the draw.
Report comment Report commentWow…If Jack, Jim and Nancy represent the general opinion, maybe I will go and jump off a bridge. Wow…snarky and unfeeling. I say…thanks Jungle Vibes and Starstuck for working so hard and giving it your all. You will be missed in the fabric of downtown Petaluma and we wish you well in future endeavors.
I’m with you Bill. Thanks for everything Jungle Vibes & StarStruck! You will be missed.
Report comment Report commentI will miss Jungle Vibes and StartStruck also. I could always find something interesting whenever I was stumped for a gift for a kid or adult or sometimes a special unique treat for myself.
Report comment Report commentSo sad to see both these stores close. StarStruck was a great shop, but unfortunately it was never ever open, no matter the time or day. This may have played a big factor in their
demise.
Thanks for your patronage over the years!!! We are closing the boutique as we enter our eighth year in business where we have indeed enjoyed being an integral part of our community.. We hosted & supported emerging artists, gave to many a great cause like the ALS Association and Breast Cancer Awareness through Catwalk for a cure, PEF, Contributed to countless fundraisers for local schools & charities and always found a unique way to engage in any community event. Received a few “Best of Boutique” awards from Petaluma 360 and the Bohemian and now am gratefully entering into a new chapter in our lives where we will transition into on-line sales exclusively… See http://www.SweetandUnique.com.. So, Darby (above) sorry to have missed you at the store…as this has been my cherished home away from home…always open late and typically the last to close shop on the block. Be well!

Why is this news? Businesses go under all the time in Sonoma County and CA because of massive regulations, taxes and red tape. This is why businesses leave the state also. No mention of the agony of keeping proper records for the county and state. Why not tell the whole story?
